About Us
Moodle House is owned and operated by two brothers:
 |
 |
| Derek Wakefield (P. Eng.) |
Philip Wakefield (Ph.D.) |
Derek and Philip are both educators who teach at the post-secondary level in Canada. Through their association with their respective educational institutions, they grew to appreciate the value of using a course management system to deliver course materials and to support their classroom teaching. They also came to realize that many of the course management systems currently in use by major educational institutions are very costly and "unfriendly".
Philip began to investigate alternative course management systems in response to his growing interest in distance education and the effective delivery of online courses. His research led him to the Moodle web site. After a thorough study of Moodle’s capabilities, Philip recommended to Derek that they install Moodle on their private server, and to use Moodle to support their teaching rather than the in-house solutions offered by their respective educational institutions. Philip and Derek found Moodle to be the ideal solution for their teaching needs. In particular, they found Moodle to be easy to use and open-source (free).
Derek’s many years of computer programming and computer systems management gave him the background necessary to install Moodle in the most efficient manner. That is not to say that Derek didn’t encounter a learning curve while installing Moodle. Rather, that learning process was manageable and well within the realm of his capabilities.
Once their own needs were met, Philip saw an opportunity to bring Moodle applications to a much broader market including businesses, governments, educational institutions and entrepreneurs to meet their respective educational and training needs. Building on Derek’s programming skills and Philip’s business skills, Moodle House was born.
Moodle House’s vision is to bring online educational opportunities to the world by offering Moodle-based eLearning solutions that are cost-effective and fully supported.
