Moodle House Content Services

Moodle House has begun using Moodle as a tool for organizational strategic planning. When properly structured, Moodle can be used to bring together the thoughts and ideas of a core planning team (participants) while reducing the need for face-to-face meetings.

The process is known as S-DI: Sustainability-Driven InnovationsTM.

This planning process can be set up and accessed through any Moodle site. There are several advantages to putting the process online:

  • Accessible - participants can access the process regardless of their location, or whether or not they are on leave, vacation or sabbatical. Everyone has an opportunity to participate.
  • Confidential - Participants can put down their thoughts or respond to specific questions in their own private online journals without fear of criticism or ridicule. Besides the individual participant, only the moderator will view the journal entries.
  • Efficient - Journal entries at each "step" of the process should not take more than 5 to 10 minutes.
  • Saves time - Online moderated forums take the place of face-to-face meetings of the participants, and they have set agendas. Forums are integrated into the process at specific intervals.
  • Moderated - The moderator plays a key role in setting the pace of the process itself, performing content analysis of the journal entries, and moderating the forums. The moderator is sworn to confidentiality.

Applications of this strategic planning process have been applied to Undergraduate and Graduate program development in Academia. Other applications are currently under development for businesses and organizations, and personal financial planning.
